Campanet

Campanet appeals mainly to those looking for a peaceful, relaxing holiday in the Majorcan countryside, away from the island’s busier beach resorts.

Life in Campanet centres around the town square and the narrow lanes running from it. Although there is no nightlife here, evenings can be spent at one of the local bars where tapas and traditional Majorcan cusine is served. Some of the hotels here offer excellent restaurants.

Hiking and walking is popular with visitors here, with cliff walks, traditional little villages and superb countryside with almond orchards, olive groves, orange groves and beautiful forests all waiting to be explored.

The Campanet Caves and the Majorca’s oldest gothic church, Sant Miguel,

Campanet Caves

are local attractions which are a must to visit whilst here. The caves are famous for their stalagmites and stalagtites which have formed over millions of years. These limestone caves are complete with pools, winding passages and fascinating chambers and will leave you with a lasting memory.

If you are in Campanet and it rains a visit to Ses Fonts Ufanes (Majorca’s first protected Natural Monument) is a must, to see the fantastic vauclusian springs which shoot out of the ground.

On the outskirts of Campanet is Menestralia where the old Majorcan tradition of glass making is still carried out and can be watched by visitors.

Font Ufanes

The beaches at Alcudia and Formentor are not far from Campanet.

In July Campanet celebrates the fiesta of Sant Victoria which lasts for 8 days and in September it celebrates Sant Miguel’s day, who is the towns patron saint.

All through the year the city is host to many concerts, theatre productions, ballet productions, festivals and exhibitions. Although most people come here for the culture and history, there are still some good nightclubs, restaurants and bars in the El Terreno district of the city which is the centre of the islands gay and lesbian community.

The hotels here are of a very high standard, the best being on the Paseo Maritimo to the west of the city.
