Playa de Muro (Platja de Muro) is a modern beach resort set in the middle of the Bay of Alcudia on the north east coast of Majorca. This secluded new resort, just 34 miles from Palma, is one of Majorca’s most recent developments. On the bay you will find top class upmarket accommodation and also the best restaurants and shops in the area. The fine sandy beach at Playa de Muro stretches all the way to the port and resort of Puerto Alcudia. Not far inland from the resort is the interesting medieval town of Alcudia with its imposing gates and city walls. Other trips should include the amazing caves at Drach and Hams, the monastery at Lluc and some of the quaint little villages such as Deya and Valldemosa. A promenade lined with hotels,restaurants, bars and shops connects Arenal to the resort of C’an Pastille. A mini-train runs along this traffic-free promenade.

There is no end of nightlife here, including clubs featuring international DJ’s, karaoke bars and British style pubs.

The numerous restaurants and cafes in the resort offer traditional, international and fast-food.

For the more energetic visitors the resort offers various watersports, mountain-biking and tennis. Watersports on offer include scuba diving, windsurfing, water-skiing, pedaloes and a sailing club. Majorca’s largest waterpark, Aqualand de Arenal, is located here in the resort. The waterpark has more than 20 water attractions, slides, rides and three childrens areas.
The resort is home to a fantastic Jurassic Park themed 54 hole mini golf course, Golf Fantasia which is a great hit with all the family.

Arenal enjoys a typically Mediterranean climate with hot summers and mild winters. July and August see temperatures around 26C with up to 11 hours of sunshine a day. During May and June temperatures average around 23C, the coldest month being January when temperatures drop to as low as 8C to 13C.

Puerto Pollensa is a great family resort located on the north coast of Majorca, about 32 miles from Palma and 5 miles from Alcudia. There is a cycle path which runs from Alcudia to Puerto Pollensa, making the area particularly popular with cyclists during the mild winters here.

The resort is located in a magnificent bay, between smaller beautiful sheltered bays on one side and the Tramuntana Mountains on the other side. The town of Pollensa is located about 4 miles inland from the resort, close to the Sierra Del Norte and the Sierra De Tramuntana mountain ranges. This is one of the oldest Majorcan towns, with narrow cobbled streets lined with old stone houses, some of which date back to the 13th century. Here you will find traditional Mallorcan restaurants serving some exquisite cusine.  In the main square there are some terrace cafes where you can enjoy a drink and a snack. In Calvari Square there are some bars and a pizza outlet. Calvari Church is found at the top of 365 steps which start in the square and a Roman bridge can be found at the edge of the town. Situated in and around a large bay, Santa Ponsa is edged by pines and sun-bleached sands, and has a small promenade. The town’s white sandy beach is the main draw for Santa Ponsa holidays, with many watersports on offer. Towards Santa Ponsa marina is ‘Little Beach’. This is a bay within a bay, gently sloping to the calm, clear water, which is ideal for smaller children.
At night discos, clubs and bars, particularly Irish bars with live music come to life.

CLIMATE

Santa Ponsa enjoys a typical Mediterranean climate with long hot summers and mild winters.
During the summer the weather is typically hot and dry with lots of sunshine, up to 11 hours a day in mid-summer. July and August are the hottest months of the year when the temperature often exceeds 30C. Because of Santa Ponsa’s coastal location there is relief from cooling sea breezes on the hottest days. The Embat is a well known local wind that brings cooler sea air.
The winters are mild in Santa Ponsa and see average temperatures around 10C, with 5 hours of sunshine a day.

Aqualand has something for all the family, including pools with slides, tubes and wave pools. For older children there are rides like the Kamikaze, Harakiri, Grand Canyon, Anaconda and the Black Hole and for younger children there are the shallower waters of the Mini Park and Polynesia.

This fantastic ‘crazy’ golf course is great for children of all ages and adults. It has three mini-golf courses, all set amid waterfalls, caves, lakes and tropical gardens. It even has a 19th-hole snack bar and a games area with coin operated arcade games.

This is a real submarine which dives Majorca’s underwater world.
Nemo Submarine’s trip last for around 50 minutes and consists of a 20 minute boat-trip to the dive-site, 50 minutes under water in the submarine (diving to 20 metres) and a dive-show with fish-feeding.

There is also an aquarium here, one with sharks and another with tropical fishes.

Originally a small fishing village, C’an Picafort is now a thriving holiday resort. C’an Picafort is located on the north coast of Majorca and has a long sandy beach which stretches from the marina all the way west to the Port of Alcudia.

Boat trips, water-skiing, pedalo hire and windsurfing are all available from the marina.

To the east of the resort is the small beach of Son Baulo and to the west, the quieter beach of Playa de Muro.

The town itself has a large variety of cafes, bars and restaurants, with the emphasis on local and British customs, as well as German and Scandinavian foods and beers. The resort is very popular with German tourists and certain restaurants do not provide menu’s in English. Other bars and restaurants are clearly aimed at the British holidaymaker, with many British owned bars in the area. There there are only two night clubs in the resort. There is a busy promenade which runs along most of the beach which is lined with bars, restaurants and shops.

The small resort of Son Baulo is found to the east of the marina in C’an Picafort and is within easy walking distance along the promenade. This is a picturesque resort with several shops and restaurants and a large choice of hotels. The resort attracts a large number of nationalities, English and

Buses run regularly from Son Baulo to Alcudia and C’an Picafort.

SHOPPING
The majority of shops run along the main road which is parallel to the beach. Here you can find souvenir shops, clothes shops, jewellers and banks. 
A small market is held on Tuesday afternoon and Friday morning. It is the norm to barter with the prices here.

Puerto de Alcúdia is a large resort in the northern part of the bay of Alcúdia. There is a marina and a ferry port, serving Barcelona and Menorca, but little maritime flavour. Its biggest asset is its enormous top quality beach. Puerto de Alcúdia appeals to package holidaymakers, specifically families on a budget, and young couples.

Puerto de Alcúdia is on the northeast coast of Majorca(Balearic Islands, Spain), 31 miles north of Palma and around the same distance from the airport. Overlooking the northern end of the bay and beach, Puerto de Alcúdia also branches inland, around a small series of lakes and canals. The resort is completely flat and has a marina and a ferry port which serve Barcelona and Menorca. It’s biggest asset is its huge, fantastic beach, making it appealing to package holidaymakers, young couples and families looking for cheap holidays.

Between May and October the daily average temperature never falls below 20ºC and rises above 30ºC in July to August. The best time to visit is May-June and September-October when it is less crowded. There are only 8-9 days of rain a month between October and March but this is usually light. Winters are mild with good spells of sunshine.

The golden sand main beach at Puerto de Alcúdia is broad and long, and stretches for about 7 miles around the bay, with lifeguards on duty in the summer. It is the longest beach on the island and provides ideal bathing for young families, surfboards (for hire), scuba diving, jet-skiing, water-skiing, wind-surfing, kite-surfing and paragliding. The Playa de Muro stretch, to the south, is an attractive protected area with dunes.

The original walled Old Town of Alcúdia, 1.2 miles from the northern end of Puerto de Alcúdia, has reconstructed medieval streets, full of cafes, restaurants and souvenir shops, as well as a well preserved bridge and part of a theatre from it’s Roman period.
The S’Albufera Nature Reserve, adjacent to the southern end of the resort (Carretera Alcúdia-Artà), is a large area of open marshland where bird watchers can view many different species.

There are lots of family attractions within a short distance of Puerto de Alcúdia. The main attraction is The Alcudia Hidropark with giant water slides, swimming and boating pools and three mini-golf courses in landscaped surroundings.

Well worth a visit is Majorca’s capital, Palma, one of Spain’s most beautiful small cities with a magnificent cathedral, atmospheric old streets, great shopping and wonderful restaurants. Old-timer trains run north from Palma, through the picturesque hill region known as the Tramuntana to Sóller, where a tram trundles it’s way down to the coast. Cristo, about 30 miles south east from Puerto de Alcúdia, is a good day out.

Puerto de Alcúdia is the nightlife centre for the north of the island with one mega disco-club, Menta, and a handfull of others which keep the resort’s 18-35 crowd happy. Throughout the resort there are lots of music and karaoke bars, however the atmosphere is generally much quieter than in the resorts of the south. Local and international performing arts are staged at the Auditori d’Alcúdia.
